Dr Christopher Rollason is a British national resident in Luxembourg. He graduated with First Class Honours in English literature from Trinity College, Cambridge (England) in 1975, and obtained his Ph.D. from York University (England) in 1988, with a dissertation on Edgar Allan Poe (on whom he has subsequently published and lectured widely, including in the Edgar Allan Poe Review and at several conferences for Poe's 2009 bicentenary and the American Comparative Literature Association conference at Harvard in 2016). For eight years up to 1987 he was a member of the Department of Anglo-American Studies at the Faculty of Letters of Coimbra University (Portugal).
Dr Rollason has lectured and published on subjects including Poe, Bob Dylan, Indian Writing in English (including Salman Rushdie, Vikram Seth, Vikram Chandra, Amitav Ghosh, and Manju Kapur), Spanish/Portuguese/Hispanoamerican literature (especially Jorge Luis Borges, Julio Cortázar and José Saramago), Walter Benjamin, and general language and translation issues. He is the author of the book published in 2021, 'Read Books, Repeat Quotations: The Literary Bob Dylan'. He has worked over the years in various contexts - institutional contacts, conferences, publications, etc - with universities including: Surrey and Manchester (England), Caen (France), Bologna (Italy), Córdoba, Seville and Valencia (Spain), and Kakatiya University (Warangal), CIEFL (Hyderabad) and IIT Kanpur, all in India. In March 2006 he was a Visiting Professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University (Delhi). In 2018 he returned to Coimbra to give conference papers on Poe and Carlos Fuentes and on José Saramago. He is a member of the Poe Studies Association, as well as of ESSE (the European Society for the Study of English), AEDEAN (the Spanish Association of Anglo-American Studies) and AEEII (Spanish Association for Intercultural Studies on India).
Dr Rollason has been Language Editor for the Atlantic Literary Review (Delhi), and has contributed to that journal and to a number of the anthologies issued by Atlantic Publishers, Delhi (see: http://www.vedamsbooks.com/). In 2002 he co-edited (with Dr Rajeshwar Mittapalli) the anthology 'Modern Criticism' (Delhi: Atlantic), to which he also contributed an essay on Walter Benjamin. In 2010 he co-edited (with Drs Sheobhushan Shukla and Ana Shukla) the book 'Entwining Narratives: Critical Explorations into Vikram Chandra's Fiction' (Delhi: Sarup). He has also contributed to a number of other Indian publications, including: The Pioneer (Delhi), The Statesman (Kolkata/Calcutta), IJOWLAC (Kolkata/Calcutta), Kakatiya Journal of English Studies (Warangal), Re-Markings (Agra), Summerhill (Simla), Seva Bharati Journal of English Studies (Midnapore, West Bengal), the Indian Journal of Postcolonial Literature (Thodupuzha, Kerala) and the Journal of the Odisha Association for English Studies (Baleswar, Orissa).
In Spain, he has published in organs including Atlantis, Nexus and The Grove, in Portugal in Revista Crítica de Ciências Sociais and Jornal de Notícias, and in Latin America in the bulletin of the Peruvian Academy of Language, Mapocho: Revista de Humanidades (National Library of Chile) and La Prensa (Bolivia).
Dr Rollason was long co-editor of two websites important in their time, the Walter Benjamin Research Syndicate and the Bob Dylan Critical Corner. On Dylan, he writes regularly for the UK-based Dylan print magazine 'The Bridge' and also for the journal 'Dylan Review', was a speaker at the Dylan conferences held at the University of Caen in 2005 and at the Dylan archive in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 2019, and lectured on Dylan and Poe at the Poe conference held in Alcalá de Henares (Spain) in 2009 and on Dylan at the University of Seville in 2011, as well as speaking on the translation of Dylan at the Madrid Book Fair in 2017.
